Campus Tensta

History

1971

The working name of Tenstaskolan (Tensta School) was changed to Tensta Gymnasium in the planning stage.

1984

Tensta Gymnasium opened its doors for the first time. One of Stockholm’s best upper-secondary schools opened in magnificent, Japanese-inspired buildings designed by Gösta Uddén, while Tensta Träff became the new meeting place for Tensta residents.

1984-2001

Gymnasium and an upper secondary school for adults (the Tensta upper secondary school for adults was an annex of Västerort upper secondary school for adults.

2010

The name of the school was changed to Ross Tensta Gymnasium, based on the Ross Model that was introduced in 2003 (Ross School in the US). The building was adapted for the Ross Learning System in the early 2000s. After a great deal of criticism, poor grades and other problems, the Ross Model was abandoned in spring 2016.

2016-2019

The courses offered by the school were sharply reduced to Swedish language training for newly arrived residents.

2019

The school was formally disbanded.

2022

Hemsö took over the property and began working to develop the site. The vision is to restore Tensta Gymnasium by creating a school campus with high-quality education where students of all ages, and from all over Stockholm, can meet. We want the premises to accommodate an elementary school, an upper-secondary school (gymnasium) and adult education/higher education along with activities for culture, innovation and entrepreneurship.

2023

Hemsö signed a seven-year lease agreement with Järva Gymnasium for a new upper secondary school in Tensta. The school will have an area of 4,600 square metres with space for approximately 500 students. The school will start in the autumn term of 2024.
